Dairy Farming

In 18 years of history, the Instituto BioSistêmico executed more than 60 projects of dairy farming with about 60 thousand services in 16 states, covering 23 thousand producers which are largely from family farmers. IBS' work in this segment covers an area estimated at 719,250 hectares.

For technical assistance to dairy farms, IBS provides three important mobile units equipped with a laboratory and support instruments for activities in the field: the Cow mobil (herd health and milk quality), the Ruffian mobil (reproductive management) and the Agromobil (property management and herd nutrition).

In all projects carried out by IBS, priority is given to environmental preservation. The guidelines are given considering how it is possible to prevent and minimize impacts on the environment. Among the measures aimed at preventing damage to the environment, there is a reduction in the use of agrochemicals, implementation or protection of legal reserve areas, soil preservation and conservation, on coverage, terracing and protection of nascents.

In addition, the promotion of animal health and welfarer is widely worked on among the assisted producers. A well-cared-for herd, with health up to date, produces more, generates less expenses with medicines and produces quality milk.

With adjustments in reproductive management, the genetic improvement of herds is encouraged, with cows that are more resistant and produce more. The reproductive efficiency of the herd is reflected in the preservation of the environment, as productivity is increased without increasing food consumption, as well as greenhouse gas emissions, since the same number of cows is maintained.

The IBS teams strive to share technical information and technology for the field so that the producer develops the production, productivity, quality of the milk and, with that, starts to have more income and prosperity in his business. This is one of the pillars of sustainability, the economic viability of the activity.

All actions are interconnected, one interferes with the other and IBS operates with this systemic view (bio+systemic), considering the entire property as a living organism. Therefore, for a sustainable production, the IBS teams guide changes in the property considering all these aspects.
